College Athletes Mentoring the Next Generation
Bigs In The Game is an exciting initiative of Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama, connecting college athletes with young people in our community who need positive role models and teammates in life.
This program builds on the natural leadership, discipline, and teamwork that student-athletes embody—qualities that inspire confidence and resilience in the next generation. Through one-on-one mentoring, our “Bigs” (college athletes) share their time, experiences, and encouragement with “Littles” who benefit from having a strong and steady influence cheering them on, both on and off the field.
The impact is powerful. Littles gain self-esteem, motivation, and a sense of belonging, while Bigs discover the joy of giving back and making a lasting difference. Whether it’s celebrating wins, learning from setbacks, or simply showing up, Bigs In The Game reminds us that every kid deserves a teammate.

Our Story
It started with a simple idea—a sign-up table at a UA football team dinner. We knew there were dedicated, driven student-athletes right down the street who could make a difference in kids’ lives. Coach Saban had always been our champion through the Nick's Kids Foundation, so we decided to go for not only funding but also manpower! And, with the support of The University of Alabama Athletics Department, "Bigs In The Game" was born.
These student-athletes have become more than mentors—they’re teammates, family, and champions for their Littles. Even during busy seasons (yes, even the Third Saturday in October!), our Bigs keep showing up. Every time!
Their commitment has inspired teammates to join, creating a ripple effect across campus and the community.
Now, some of our original Bigs—turned NFL players—are still mentoring their Littles.
Because once you’re a teammate, you’re always a teammate.
Every kid deserves that.
